Save money with solar

Futureproof your home or business against energy price rises.

A solar electric system allows you to harness the abundant power of the sun, creating free, sustainable energy. Connection to the electricity grid means you can get extra power if you need it, and you can "sell" any excess power you generate that you don't first use in your home or business, back to the grid. Our aim at The Green Energy Shop is to wipe-out your electricity bill, so you have can have free power from the sun no matter how much electricity prices rise in the future, which is predicted as much as 20% a year!

How does it work?

The energy from the sun is captured through photovoltaic cells (solar panels) that are typically mounted on the side of your roof that has the most exposure to the sun (north or west).

Your home or business remains connected to the main electricity grid that powers your area, so:

  • Any electricity that your system generates above what you use is fed back into the grid
  • When you require more electricity than you are producing, your system imports it from the grid automatically
  • Your electricity bill is calculated as the difference between the amount of electricity you export from your solar system and the amount you import from the grid - you only pay for the electricity you use that is over and above what your solar energy system produces.
By using solar electric systems to power your home or business you are reducing greenhouse gas emissions and your electricity bills.

Are there different system sizes?

Solar systems are available in a range of sizes, from 1kW upwards.

Do I require any Council Permits?

A planning permit may be required if your property is identified as being located within a Heritage Area. In all cases, property owners should speak to a council planner, or planning officer.

What products do we use?

At The Green Energy Shop we only use the best products available. Our monocrystilline photovoltaic panels are supplied by Suntech or Conergy who are the world leaders in solar panel technology. These companies have been around for over 20 years, offer the longest warranties in the market place and replace your panel straight away should there be a problem.

We only use SMA invertors when selling our solar electricity systems. We have found these to be the best on the market for efficiency and reliability.

Be wary of companies selling cheap solar systems as this usually means inferior products with no quality control over them. Be sure to research your product thoroughly, ensure the integrity of your supplier and most of all that they will still be around in 10 years if their warranties last that long!
